A cleanroom was recently installed in the ReAgent factory, opening up the door to countless business opportunities and allowing us to offer new services. Leading cleanroom brand, Connect 2 Cleanrooms, visited ReAgent on 23rd September and set up our modular cleanroom – the first cleanroom ever to be installed at ReAgent.
What is a Cleanroom?
A cleanroom is a controlled environment that has been treated to ensure it is free from contamination. It allows for the manufacture of particular products, where it is vital that they’re protected from any airborne particles. For example, cleanrooms may be adopted in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and medical industries.
Some chemicals and products need to be handled in a critical environment with clean air. Industry standards in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals are famously strict; with all of the specific regulations to adhere to, contamination in products must be kept to an absolute minimum.
There are restrictions in place about the items that can be taken into a cleanroom. For example, pens and notebooks must be cleanroom-approved and materials that can trap particles such as wood are prohibited in cleanrooms.
To give an idea of how effective a cleanroom is, here are some striking statistics; the air in a typical office building contains between 500,000 and 1,000,000 particles per cubic foot of air. The air in a cleanroom is designed to never contain more than 100 particles per cubic foot.
Why Install a Cleanroom?
In the past, ReAgent has had to turn down requests from customers, as we didn’t have the necessary facilities for certain processes. Now that we have a cleanroom installed, we have the capabilities to expand into the pharmaceutical and cosmetics markets and can offer a new range of services that we were previously unable to provide.
Since Connect 2 Cleanrooms installed a cleanroom within our premises, we have the capabilities to hand – we can now ensure that all particles remain outside the cleanroom and we have a safe, clean space to carry out chemical processes.
ReAgent is excited to be able to offer these new services, which will be added to our website in due course. We hope the cleanroom will attract new customers and open up new business opportunities; the benefits should especially be revealed when we exhibit at events such as Making Cosmetics in 2015.
Modular Cleanrooms: Rapid Room
There is a pretty wide range of cleanroom designs to choose from, but we opted for a modular cleanroom. The modular cleanroom is situated on wheels to offer production benefits to the company; we can transport the cleanroom to whichever part of the factory is best for a particular process. This was a lean decision and will allow optimum efficiency and minimum movement or waste.
Additionally, modular cleanrooms take less time to install and are less expensive than traditional clean rooms. Our clean room could even be customised to any size or design we wanted.
The cleanroom design we opted for is known as a Rapid Room. It was assembled in less than 30 minutes and has transparent sides and ceiling. The Rapid Room cleanroom consists of softwall curtains and a clear, acrylic ceiling and powder-coated frame. It has variable speed controls which allow for more than 100 air changes per hour.
The Rapid Room is an ISO Class 7 cleanroom. The ISO guidelines present information about each class of cleanroom. The type of class describes information such as maximum concentration limits of particles and the type of protective equipment that is recommended.
